Z Norganna's AddOns
Spis treści |
Project Background
Auctioneer is an suite of AddOns which can be used in the World of Warcraft MMO. Auctioneer was first created by Norganna, back in 2005 in the early days of Vanilla WoW. He eventually collected a team of open-source enthusiasts who were willing to collaborate with him to provide ongoing maintenance and enhancements to the Auctioneer tool. Auctioneer is currently in its 5th major release version.
New release quality builds are provided whenever substantial new Auctioneer functionality is ready for release, or when new versions of WoW require substantial changes to the Auctioneer code for compatibility.
In addition to our main trunk branch, from which all release and preview builds are born, at any given time various experimental features may be under development in any number of other testing branches. Under normal circumstances, end-users should not attempt to download and use these branches of the code, unless given direction by one of the developers. We provide no support for these experimental versions.
History of Releases and Project Activity
Auctioneer (Advanced, 5.x)
This version of Auctioneer (originally released as Auctioneer Advanced, and able to co-exist with the older 4.x Auctioneer Classic) re-wrote the entire framework to be more modular. The scanning module now supported multiple separate pricing/statistics plug-ins, which users could enable or disable, or even write their own. The framework also supports price matching modules and utility modules, each independently controllable or open for user contribution. This version also eliminated the problem of users' price databases growing too large to be handled in WoW, causing the loss of all a user's data.
Starting with the 5.x set of releases, we began providing stable "release" quality builds at any X.Y version numbering, alongside frequent "preview" X.Y+1 builds of our current developer/unstable trunk branches, for users willing to accept beta quality in order to get more up-to-date functionality and bug fixes. Each version is also tagged with a build number, which corresponds to the SVN revision associated with that particular release.
Auctioneer 5.x is/was compatible with TBC, WotLK, and Cataclysm.

Auctioneer (Classic, 4.x)
This version of Auctioneer extended the underlying framework of the Auctioneer tool, allowing the tool to queue up multiple scans, purchases, and auction postings in a complex queuing-callback system. BottomScanner and Swatter were added to the suite.
This version of Auctioneer was released ~2 months after TBC was unveiled, existed side-by-side with Auctioneer Advanced preview releases for several months, and was decommissioned for the WotLK release, with which it was not compatible.

Auctioneer (3.x)
During development of this 3.x version, Auctioneer was becoming a very complex, modular system of AddOns. It provided the ability to scan the Auction House and search for good deals for purchase. It also included the Enchantrix, Informant, and BeanCounter modules to provide extended auction functionality. BottomFeeder was also introduced at this time (and then later pulled, at Blizzard's request).
Starting with Auctioneer 3.2, Auctioneer used even-numbered point releases (e.g. 3.4) to indicate major releases, and odd-numbered point releases (e.g. 3.5) to indicate developer/unstable versions. This system was in place through our 3.8 releases.
Auctioneer 3.x (and earlier) versions were compatible with Vanilla WoW 1.x. I do not believe Auc 3.x was compatible with TBC, as Auc 4.x was released at that time

- All projects moved to GPL v2 - November 7, 2005

- Auctioneer 2.04 - April 27, 2005 (initial move to SourceForge, to allow collaborative development on the 3.x line)
- Auctioneer 2.01, 2.02, and 2.03 and Enchantrix 1.14 - February 23, 2005 (WoW 1.2.4 compatibility, per server-faction, data changes)
